RICHMOND, Va. — There are more than 140 dogs and cats waiting to be adopted from Richmond Animal Care and Control. There are 86 dogs living at the center, putting them over capacity, Director Christie Chipps Peters said.
“We are slammed on dogs right now,” Peters said. “If we could get 20 adopted this weekend, we’d be in a much more comfortable situation.”
To help encourage animal adoption, Peters and her staff came up with a weekend special.
“All adoptions will be $20 for both cats and dogs and includes spay/neuter, vaccines and a microchip,” she said. “We have lovely dogs and cats waiting for a forever home.”
Peters said adoptions tend to slow down once summer ends and children are back in school. Animals at Richmond Animal Care and Control are not euthanized to make room for other animals or because they’ve been at the center too long.
