RICHMOND, Va, -- Some city streets closed to make room for UCI Road World Championship cyclists and their fans, temporarily eliminating some GTRC bus stops.

Broad Street will be closed between Third Street and Seventh Street until September 30.

There are a number of GRTC bus stops within those blocks, and GRTC is temporarily closing bus stops until roads reopen.

Cbs 6 went to GRTC to find out what that means for those who rely on public transportation.

“They are relatively minor detours at this time but the biggest series and impacts are coming on September 19 through 27,” explained Carrie Rose Pace, spokesperson for GRTC.

Rose Pace said all bus riders need to allow extra travel time, and check the GRTC website before heading out. “Plan your trip and plan extra time to get to and from your destination,” advised Rose Pace.

Rose Pace said during the races, bus routes will change daily so GRTC employees will post new signs at bus stops every day.

“We are going to do that each day from September 19 to September 27, to tell you which bus stops will be active from day to day,” Rose Pace said.

And for those who rely on GRTC’s CARE van, Rose Pace assured, GRTC will continue to service those locations, even if they are on a stretch of road that is blocked off.

“We will still be providing curb to curb access for those who need it as controlled by the Richmond Police. ”
