PETERSBURG, Va. -- Police in Petersburg are asking for the public's help after two shootings in less than 12 hours left two men dead.
The first shooting happened just before 4:30 p.m. Thursday. That's when police were dispatched to the American Deli at 847 W. Washington Street.
A man who lives in that neighborhood told CBS 6 reporter Jon Burketthe heard at least 16 shots crack Thursday afternoon.
Police found 22-year-old Frank White of Petersburg suffering from multiple gunshot wounds on the sidewalk of S. Dunlop Street next to the convenience store.
Officials said White was transported to Southside Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. He died around 10:30 p.m.
Officers were later called to Southside Regional Medical Center for a person shot around 3:15 a.m. Friday.
Officials said 24-year-old Neil Lewis of Petersburg arrived at the hospital suffering from a single gunshot wound. Police said he was driven to the hospital from an unknown location on Custer Street.
"Lewis died about five minutes after police arrived,"Petersburg Police spokeswoman Esther Hyatt said in a news release.
Police said their investigations are ongoing, but that no arrests have been made.
