CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — Chesterfield Sheriff’s deputies will start wearing new dark blue uniforms while on the job. Chesterfield Sheriff Karl Leonard said he wanted his deputies to stand out while in the community.

“[He] sought to develop a new uniform that would enable the Sheriff’s Office to stand out from among other agencies in the region and the state, while enhancing a sense of identity, professionalism and pride among the deputies,” the sheriff’s office indicated in a news release. “A new lighter-weight field uniform was also developed in white to be worn on some assignments.”

The sheriff’s office indicated the new uniforms cost $33 less, per uniform, than the old ones.

“The transition to the new uniform for the approximately 300 deputies in the department will take place over the course of the next year,” the sheriff’s office said.
