VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Two people were killed after one of them opened fire on police from inside a vehicle Saturday night in Virginia Beach.

WTKR reports the shooting happened at the 7-Eleven in the 2000 block of Lynnhaven Parkway.

Officials said police had received a tip earlier that night about the location of a "person of interest" in an ongoing homicide investigation.

Police said as officers approached the vehicle in which the person was a passenger, that person opened fire at the officers.

One officer had a bullet pierce his clothing, but was not struck.

Police returned fire, and the driver and passenger were struck. Both died at the scene.

An infant inside the car was not hurt and is in the care of Child Protective Services.

Police recovered a firearm at the scene.
