History on Tap: The Queen Bee” 213 Year Old Recipe Tasting

RICHMOND: “History On Tap: The Queen Bee” A program presented by the Virginia Historical Society and the third installment of the History on Tap series, It’s a collaboration between the Virginia Historical Society and Black Heath Meadery. A ticketed tasting event with a 213 Year Old Recipe Tasting at The Virginia Historical Society, 428 North Boulevard Tuesday, September 8th, at 6 – 7:30pm. The event will have an informal discussion about mead-making in Virginia and the making of Queen Bee, featuring Bill Cavender, owner of Black Heath Meadery. Other speakers include, Keith Tignor, State Apiarist, will talk about beekeeping and honey and Dr. Paul Levengood, President and CEO of the VHS will speak about the importance of the VHS’s collections. Recipes are accessible to the public at the VHS’s collections. Tickets $18 For VHS members and $20 for non-members and includes 2 glasses of mead, light hors d’oeuvres.  Mead, an alcoholic drink produced by fermenting honey and water with yeast, is known from many sources of ancient history from all over the world and is often considered to be the ancestor of all fermented beverages. The museum galleries at the Virginia Historical Society have reopened and a Family Open House day is scheduled for Saturday, October 3rd, from 10am-5pm. There will be games, crafts, tours, and other special programs for visitors of all ages to engage and explore Virginia’s rich history at the re-opening of the signature exhibition, The Story of Virginia.
