HILLSBORO, Ore.– An Oregon competition is challenging home brewers to make beer with a unique ingredient.

The Pure Water Brew Competition challenges home brewers to create beer using highly purified water that came directly from a wastewater treatment plant in Forest Grove.

The water is stripped down so there is essentially nothing left to it; no waste, and no minerals, KPTV reported.

The goal of the competition is to get people talking about water and how valuable it is.

“Water is too precious to use just once. We need to think about how to use it again,” said Mark Jockers with Clean Water Services.

“The yuck factor was gone the moment they explained the process, what happens, and the fact that drinking rain water out of the sky, not the best. This water is really really clean, really pure,” said Lee Hedgmon with Pints Brewing.

Dean Ehnes took Best in Show with a German Pilsner.
