CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- A man was charged with reckless driving after he struck a woman walking in a Meadowdale Boulevard parking lot, a Chesterfield Police spokeswoman said. Madelyne Y. Hughes, 88, died August 15, two days after she was hit, as a result of her injuries.
"At about 6:40 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13, a 1996 GMC Sonoma was backing out of a parking space when it struck Madelyne Y. Hughes, 88, who was walking in the parking lot," Chesterfield Police wrote in an email. "The driver of the truck, Andre J. Gorruso, 44, remained at the scene and was not injured."
Neighbors who lived near Hughes' Edwards Avenue home called her a nice, active and independent woman.
The investigation into the crash remained on-going, police said.
