RICHMOND, Va. — A professional dancer surprised his new bride with an amazing nearly eight-minute dance with his groomsmen at his wedding reception.
The bride, Valerie Tellmann is a Richmond Ballet ballerina. Her husband Kirk Henning is also a professional dancer.
The couple’s wedding reception took place on July 25, on the same stage the two have shared as dancers in performances for the Richmond Ballet.
Tellman-Henning said, in an interview with the Richmond Times-Dispatch, that she was surprised by the dance routine though she had originally hoped for something like it.
“I told him early on in the wedding planning process, ‘Well, I hope you’re working on your groomsmen dance for me,’” Tellmann-Henning said. “But he was so busy with touring and school, he said, ‘Valerie, it’s just not going to happen.’”
But Kirk told the paper he knew “how important it was to her.”
So four months ago, he collaborated with his groomsmen for the dance.
They opened up with “Uptown Funk.” It included other songs like Britney Spears’ “You Drive Me Crazy,” “Dangerzone” and “Brad Paisley’s “The World.”
It ended with Walk the Moon’s “Shut up and Dance with Me,” and guests joined the bride and groom, both grinning ear-to-ear.
The video was posted on Aug. 11 and so far has registered almost 300,000 views, guaranteed to reach more this week as it goes viral.
Three months ago the couple spoke about their 10 plus years journey toward marriage.
