BATH COUNTY, Va. -- Wildlife officials in Bath County have killed a black bear they say attacked a Midlothian woman Saturday at Douthat State Park.
WTVR CBS 6 reporter Joe St. George spoke with Laurie Cooksey late Sunday.
Cooksey said a photo taken five minutes before an adult female bear attacked her on a hike in Bath County.
Cooksey credited her family with remembering survival techniques that intimidated the bear, which caused the animal to leave.
She said she is in good spirits despite having 28 stitches on her back and leg after the attack.
This comes on the heels of another bear attack at Yellowstone National Park.
On Friday, a Montana man's body was found on a trail. Based on tracks found at the scene, it appears a female grizzly with at least one cub was likely involved in the attack.
