CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Investigators are trying to figure out what started a house fire in the 13600 block of River Mist Road in Midlothian Wednesday.

According to Lt. Jason Elmore, four people live at the home and two teens were inside when they heard smoke alarms go off. Flames were still shooting out of the home when CBS 6 arrived, but everyone was able to get out safely.

Lt. Elmore said finding a cause to the fire will be very difficult.

"When crews arrived on scene there was heavy fire from the rear of the house, so our fire marshals are going to be looking at that area first," said Elmore. "There is a significant amount of damage to the home, so It’s going to be a difficult job that there are going to have, to determine exactly what caused the fire."

This story is developing.
