DINWIDDIE, Va. -- A Chesterfield woman is accused of impersonating an officer and brandishing a gun at a Dinwiddie convenience store.

Rosa Williams, 60, was checking out at the “Produce Center” around 8 p.m. on July 29, and she allegedly demanded the clerk bag her groceries and take them to her car before she paid for it.

When the clerk told her no, she allegedly showed two badges, told them she is a cop and also showed them a gun inside her purse, according to investigators.

A clerk called police after Williams paid and left.

They tracked her down with the help of surveillance pictures and social media. She has been charged will brandishing a weapon and impersonating a law enforcement officer.

The cashier, Gracie Hart, said she was just following store policy when she questioned whether Williams’ groceries could leave the store before she had paid for them.

“She just went off, made it a big racial thing, sayin’ it’s because I’m black,” Hart said. From there, Hart said, the situation took a bizarre turn.

“She said I’m not dumb, I’m a cop, I have a f’ing gun too,” Hart said.

Hart said Williams opened up her purse to show Hart two badges and a gun.

“I just stood there and kept ringing stuff up and just held my breath because I didn’t want her to shoot me,” Hart said.

Investigator Kenny Droddy with the Dinwiddie Sheriff’s Department said Williams was charged with impersonating an officer and brandishing a firearm. “She was in the possession of two badges. Both badges are the type you could buy online or at a novelty store,” Droddy said.

But, Williams said she did not pretend to be a cop and the badges are legit.

She showed them to CBS 6 reporter Melissa Hipolit.

Williams said one of them says “Security Enforcement Officer” and the other says “Special Police.”

“I don’t have no business saying I’m a cop because I’m an auxiliary officer and a correction officer,” Williams said.

Yet, Investigator Droddy said he could find any evidence that she had ever worked in corrections.

“I found no proof that she's ever been employed. I have found no proof that she is or was either one,” Droddy said.
