HOPEWELL, Va. -- The Hopewell teacher whose burlesque videos were shared by students on social media has resigned from her job, a Hopewell School District spokesperson confirmed. The school board approved the teacher's resignation during its July 28 meeting. The teacher's name has not been reported.
Some Hopewell parents had called for her job after the videos made the rounds. One YouTube video of the teacher participating in a burlesque show had been viewed several thousand times.
The resignation came despite the fact CBS 6 legal analyst Todd Stone believed the teacher was in the clear -- legally.
"If we are talking about an adult and someone else has chosen to distribute it, well that's their choice,” Stone said. "The Constitution protects free speech and expression. This is a legal profession or hobby. She has the right to do it and it's protected under free speech."
Earlier in the week, Hopewell's acting superintendent said the personnel issue could not be discussed due to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
