RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond continues to paint the city with graffiti as the fourth installment of the Richmond Mural Project nears completion.

Art Whino launched the urban project in 2012, and since then over 60 murals have been created on various city buildings.

Another 10 muralists are in Richmond, from various parts of the world, from July 14- 28. Artists usually work on more than one mural, and there will be 18 total completed near the end of July.

“The project has brought worldwide attention to Richmond as a destination for Mural Lovers worldwide,” Art Whino wrote in an email. “Expanding on the body of murals we will be curating a dynamic range of styles and subject matter providing a glimpse into a worldwide movement in one city.”

The goal is to create over 100 murals in the first 5 years alone. The selected artists visiting Richmond to participate are known throughout the world.

This year’s class of artists are Caratoes (Hong Kong), Clog two (Singapore), D*Face (UK), Evoca1 (Florida), Inkten (Singapore), James Bullough (Berlin), Jason Woodside (New York), Jerkface (New York), Moya (Japan), Nils Westergard (Richmond) and Taylor White (North Carolina).

The founders of the project believe that the five-year span of the project, along with the international talent, help establish Richmond as a landmark destination for  internationally recognized murals and will create exposure for the city as an art destination.

“By concentrating a large number of murals throughout the city the project will increase tourism  and will bring the much needed “Feet on the Street” which will help  local business thrive,” the founders said.
