GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. — Capital One has notified some technology workers they will soon no longer be part of the company. The exact number of local layoffs has not been made public. With more than 11,000 employees, Capital One is the largest private employer in Central Virginia, according to a Richmond Times-Dispatch’s annual list.

“We are transforming our Tech organization with a focus on engineering and simplifying the way we work. Today, we notified associates whose roles are impacted by this effort,” a Capital One spokesperson said. “We’re committed to helping those impacted by the decision through the transition.”

The company said it would give laid off workers at least 60 days notice, provide them with extensive resources and  give them the opportunity to apply for other Capital One jobs.

“If they choose not to pursue an internal Capital One role, associates will be eligible to receive a severance package, including retraining assistance and outplacement services,” the spokesperson said.
