GLEN ALLEN, Va. -- A Henrico man was arrested and charged with sodomy, strangulation, assault and battery, abduction with intent to defile and intentionally destroying property in connection with the abduction of a teenage girl, according to Virginia State Police. Aaron Michael Berg, 28, of Greenwood Glen Drive in Glen Allen, was arrested Thursday night at a relative's Hanover home.

Police tracked Berg down hours after troopers were notified about a possible abduction in progress on Interstate 95 in Northern Virginia.

"State troopers were immediately dispatched to search for the suspect vehicle that was heading north on I-95 through Prince William County. At approximately 1:50 p.m., the suspect vehicle pulled off on the shoulder of I-95 near the 155 mile marker, and the 18-year-old female fled from the car," Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller wrote in an email. "Berg, the driver, ran after her on foot a short distance before returning to his vehicle and driving off at a high rate of speed. The search continued for the suspect vehicle. The female was transported to Fairfax Inova Hospital."

Berg and the teenager were acquainted with one another prior to Thursday’s abduction and assault, Geller added.

Police arrested Berg at a family member’s home in Hanover.

On the normally quiet Glen Allen cul-de-sac where Berg lives, neighbors are not used to seeing a swarm of police cars. But Thursday when Danielle Heil peered out of her front door, she couldn't believe what she saw.

“There were investigators, undercover police cars. Officers were stationed up the street,” Heil said.

Neighbors are stunned by the news.

“It could have been me...," Heil said. "I don't know, the fact that I've seen girls coming and going over there -- one in particular, she has long brown hair. I don't know if it was her or somebody else.”

Berg is scheduled to appear in court again on July 31.
