RICHMOND -- The city of Richmond has cleaned up the area surrounding the Arthur Ashe statue on Monument Avenue.

This comes one day after former Governor and Richmond Mayor Douglas Wilder sent out a series of tweets, criticizing the city for allowing weeds to protrude around the Ashe statue.

Thursday the city said they were going to start clean up next week on the areas surrounding the Ashe Statue.

This Sunday marks the 40 anniversary of the Richmond native's win at Wimbledon.
