The New York Times had no idea the backlash it would receive after a seemingly innocuous recipe tweet.

The newspaper suggested adding English peas to your guacamole. The tweet had a photo and read “Trust Us.”

Immediately people began replying to the N.Y. Times with an overwhelmingly negative response.

Some followers went so far as to say they’d subscribe.

The Texas GOP joined the conversation saying the Times “declared war on Texas” just by suggesting green peas be added to the classic.

Someone tweeted using #AskPOTUS, and sure enough President Barack Obama weighed in on the issue.

Some even had a suggestion for New Yorkers to change some of their food staples.

It’s not too late to weigh in… let us know!
