CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. - As a business owner for 25 years, Angelo Zimbardo has never experienced someone trying to use counterfeit bills in his Chesterfield County restaurant. Which is why he was surprised to find out someone tried to use a counterfeit bill in the shopping center where his business is located.

"They gotta be careful," said Zimbardo, "Make sure you check them every day."

Two people tried to use a counterfeit $50 bill at Bed Bath and Beyond off Midlothian Turnpike on Monday, according to Chesterfield Police.
Along with that location, there were several other places in the county where people tried to use a fake $50 and $100 bills.

Doug Mease, Special Agent in Charge at the Secret Service Richmond Field Office, said that the department is constantly notified by local agencies of counterfeit bills being passed.

"We give them all the necessary assistance," said Mease.

Secret Service agents recommend looking for certain features like a security thread as well as the watermark on the right side of the bill. Experts also said when they're looking at bills under a microscope, little confetti-like dots will show up on the counterfeits.

Agents also said don't ever hesitate to call police if you don't think a bill is real.
