YORK COUNTY, Va. -- A York County Sheriff's Deputy shot and killed a suspect who showed a handgun after a traffic accident on Ft. Eustis Boulevard, according to York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lieutenant Dennis Ivey Jr.

"[It] started as a vehicle accident investigation that ended up resulting in a confrontation with a suspect armed with a hand gun and a deputy sheriff," Ivey said. "After the suspect produced a handgun on the deputy, the deputy shot him. The suspect was transported to Mary Immaculate Hospital where he was pronounced dead."

The suspect, whose name has not yet been released, was wanted for multiple charges in another county, Ivey said.

"He had an extensive criminal history. He was also considered to be armed and dangerous with violent tendencies," Ivey said. "No deputies were injured. This is still an ongoing investigation."
