HOPEWELL, Va. -- A home in the 300 block of Allen Avenue in Hopewell was  left with heavy damage Wednesday night. Video captured the roaring flames and cries of children as firefighters arrived on scene to fight the fire.

The fire started in the kitchen at about 8 p.m., a neighbor said. There were children swimming in the pool in the backyard, he added. Firefighters remained on scene several hours attempting to put out all hotspots.

Firefighters confirmed no one was inside the house at the time of the fire. They will continue to piece together information from their investigation and release more details soon.
