SURF CITY, N.C. — An 8-year-old boy suffered what appeared to be a shark bite on Wednesday afternoon, the Surf City Police Department told WECT. Officials said the incident happened near 700 S. Shore Drive.
Police and EMS responded and provided treatment at the scene. Police said the wounds were superficial and the injuries were minor.
The child’s parents took him to the emergency room for further assessment, WECT reported.
There have been multiple shark-bite incidents in recent weeks along the North Carolina coast.
On June 14, a 12-year-old girl from Archdale and a 16-year-old boy from Colorado both lost their arms in shark attacks at Oak Island. The attacks were just hours apart, a very rare incident.
Surf City is about 60 miles from Oak Island.
