RICHMOND, Va. -- Ten outstanding students who live in Richmond's public housing neighborhoods were awarded $4,000 each in college scholarships on Wednesday. The annual Redevelopment and Housing Authority (RRHA) Tomorrow's Promise Scholarship Fund awards program recognized the students' academic achievements, strong work ethic and service to the community of RRHA youth.
“Congratulations, you are not only scholastic standouts, but you have demonstrated leadership through your community service to improve the lives of others," said Interim CEO T.K. Somanath. "You are setting an example for others to follow, let your positive influence and ability to impact lives motivate you to keep pushing forward."
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Tomorrow’s Promise Scholarship Fund. Over $350,000 has been awarded in financial assistance to over 120 students in the past couple decades.
"To celebrate 20 years of helping our young residents reach their dreams is an amazing accomplishment,” said Somanath. ”We also want to thank the many donors who have contributed to the Fund over the years and we encourage others to join us in our quest to provide these important scholarships."
