CHESTER, Va. — Work to resurface Route 10 in Chester will “narrow existing travel lanes and restripe pavement markings to provide for bicycle and pedestrian accommodations,” according to VDOT.

“Travel lanes will be narrowed in both directions from 12 feet to 10.5 feet to allow for 5.5-foot lanes for cyclist and pedestrian travel,” VDOT spokeswoman Lindsay LeGrand said. “Drivers can expect alternating lane closures and minor delays during overnight hours for construction.”

The two-and-a-half mile stretch of Route 10 scheduled for the work runs from Womack Road to the Breckenridge Shopping Center, just west of Jefferson Davis Highway. Road work is scheduled to begin Sunday.  The project is expected to be completed in December.
