First-year teachers honored in Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va -- Chesterfield school leaders honored three district first-year teachers as they wrapped up the academic term.

Alberta Smith Elementary's Katelyn Bell, who teaches second grade, earned the Elementary School Beginning Teacher of the Year award. The finalists for the award were Beulah Elementary's Jordan Brackett and Woolridge Elementary's Nicole Burchett.

Providence Middle's Jon Ferguson was awarded Middle School Beginning Teacher of the Year. He teaches seventh-grade language arts. The finalists for the award were Falling Creek Middle's Andrew Bowersox and Nicholas Cenname.

The High School Beginning Teacher of the Year Award went to Bird High's Pamela Hooper. Manchester High's Kaitlyn Allan and James River High's Anna Gahagan were the finalists.
