MIDDLESEX COUNTY, Va. -- Virginia State Police are investigating an early morning accident in Middlesex County that left a 24-year-old Mechanicsville man dead. Troopers said the wreck happened around 3:40 a.m. on Route 604 (Nesting Road) east of Route 648 (Montague Island Road) in the Nesting section of Middlesex County. That's where a Honda S2000 ran off the road and crashed into a group of trees, according to Michelle Anaya, a spokesperson for Virginia State Police.

"The vehicle was occupied by the driver, Daniel L. Kastner, and a passenger, Mark Alexander Moore," Anaya said.

Kastner was transported to VCU Medical Center in Richmond.

Moore, of the 8000 block of Ellendale Lane in Mechanicsville, died at the scene.

"The Division 5 reconstruction team responded to the scene in support of the investigation,"  Anaya said.

State police are investigating whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash, but said both appeared to be wearing their seatbelts.

No charges have been filed as the investigation is ongoing and pending review by the commonwealth's attorney's office.
