VCU beat Oregon State 5-1 for it’s 13th straight win to put the Rams one win away from advancing to a Super Regional for the first time in program history. This marks just the fifth time in NCAA DI Baseball history that a #4 seed has won its first two games in regional play

The fourth inning has been the magic inning during this regional for the Rams. On Friday they scored five runs en route to a victory, today they plated three runs against the Beavers.  Matt Davis led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch. He would score on an RBI infield single by former Varina star Darian Carpenter and Vimael Machin would score on Brett Hileman’s sacrifice fly to left field. Carpenter would score on an RBI double by Jimmy Kerrigan to round out the inning.

In the bottom of the fifth VCU tacked on two more runs after Machin drove a ball deep to right field that missed being a home run by less than a foot, but still scored two Rams.

The Beavers’ offense would wake up a bit in the top of the seventh, scoring a run on a couple of hits plus a walk. Luckily for the Rams, Daniel Concepcion came in from the ‘pen and induced an inning-ending double play to get VCU out of trouble.

Concepcion closed out the game for the Rams’ 5-1 win over the Beavers.
