RICHMOND, Va. – A shooting in the parking lot of a Southside Richmond apartment complex left one man dead and another wounded Sunday evening. It happened Sunday around 7:36 p.m. when officers were called to a parking lot in the 5600 block of Petosky Avenue at the Forestbrooke apartment complex for the report of shots fired.

Richmond Police spokesman James Mercante said before officers arrived, one man was driven to an area hospital where he died.

Mercante said another man who was wounded was driven to a convenience store parking lot at the intersection of Midlothian Turnpike and Covington Avenue. That's where an ambulance was called and he was taken to an area hospital.

According to police, that victim's injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Police said they are still in the early stages of an investigation. A suspect description has not been released.

If you have information that could help police, call Detective Amira Sleem at 804-814-7123 or Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
