ASHLAND, Va. -- No students were hurt when a Hanover school bus and two other vehicles crashed near the intersection of Route 1 and Smithtown Road in Ashland Friday morning, according to Hanover Schools spokesman Chris Whitley. The bus was loaded with Patrick Henry High School and Liberty Middle School students at the time of the crash. A second bus was dispatched to bring the children to school.

Initial reports from the crash scene indicated one vehicle hit both the school bus and an SUV. The driver of the SUV was cut out of the damaged vehicle. That person's condition has not yet been released.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the bus and SUV was seen getting a field sobriety test following the crash. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Route 1 is closed around the intersection where the crash happened. This is a developing story.
