HOPEWELL, Va. – The 5-year-old boy who drove a moped into the back of a SUV Monday night in Hopewell is expected to be okay. The child was flown to VCU Medical Center around 5:30 p.m. Monday with non-life threatening injuries to his face and shoulder, police said.

"I just thank God my grandson is fine. He's going to make it. He's going to recover and he's coming home," grandmother Cheri Brown said.

The child was not wearing a helmet when he crashed at the intersection of Trenton Street and Carolina Avenue, police said. Witnesses said the child was having a hard time controlling the moped before the crash.

No charges were filed against the SUV driver because police said the driver was not at fault.
