DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. – State police are investigating a single-vehicle wreck that left a man dead and shut down Vaughan Road in Dinwiddie County for more than three hours Sunday evening.

Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Steve Vick said the wreck happened around 5:30 p.m. in the 10000 block of Vaughan Road about a half of a mile south of Plantation Drive.

“The trooper’s investigation revealed that a 2002 Toyota was traveling south on Vaughan Road when it ran off the road to the right, over corrected left, then back right, running off the road hitting a tree and overturning twice ejecting the driver,” Vick said.

The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene.

The name of the driver has not yet been released pending next-of-kin notification.

Vick said that speed is being considered a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
