PETERSBURG, Va. -- The family of a Petersburg man shot and killed in March held a memorial Sunday in hopes of shining new light on the unsolved homicide.
Loved ones gathered at the corner of North Carolina Avenue and High Pearl Street Sunday afternoon to release a sea of balloons in memory of Delmirrio R. Murdock.
Family members chose the spot because that is where they say Murdock was gunned down.
Murdock’s mother said her son left behind two young children.
"It's hard to grieve and put pieces together and wait for justice from the police," Demetra Taylor, the victim's mother said.
Taylor said she was disheartened that no one has been charged in her son's slaying. But she remains hopeful that more people will come forward with information that could help investigators.
