Man kicks down door before stealing from Richmond church

RICHMOND, Va. -- Detectives released photos and video of a man wanted for breaking into and stealing from Faith Holy Christian Church Of Deliverance on N. 22nd Street in Richmond. The man in the photo kicked in a door to the church, police said. The crime happened Tuesday, April 21, at 11 p.m.

"We try to keep an eye on what's going on in our community," self-proclaimed 'nosey neighbor Mary White Thompson said.

Church crime 04The brazen burglar  was in and out within a matter of seconds, but long enough to steal items neighbor Roy Scruggs found abandoned the next day.

"I saw the safe in the field, so I went to check and I saw a check with this address on here," Scruggs recalled.  "I walked around here and I looked in the back door, saw it was cracked so I called the police."

"I think we need to be vigilant," Thompson said.

"The suspect is described as a black male who wore a light-colored t-shirt, camouflage shorts and high-top sneakers," Richmond Police advised. "Detectives ask anyone with any information about this person to call First Precinct Detective Gaetano Drago at (804) 646-3395 or call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000."
