Family of 7 escapes Dinwiddie County house fire

Posted

DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. — The fire that destroyed a home in Dinwiddie County Thursday night remained under investigation Friday morning. Seven people in the home along the 19000 block of Spriggs Road escaped the fire unharmed. When Dinwiddie fire crews responded to the one-story home around 11:20 p.m. Thursday, they found heavy fire showing from the rear porch.

“The fire was extended into the living areas of the residence as well,” Dinwiddie County Fire & EMS Chief Dennis Hale said. “Units initiated an offensive fire attack and brought the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes.”

One person who lived at the home discovered the fire on the rear of the house and was able to alert others in the house, Hale said. The American Red Cross is helping the family find a new place to live.
