CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- A CBS 6 viewer who watched a viral video of an alleged malfunctioning gas pump in Dinwiddie County was paying extra attention when he filled up a few hours later.

"I was not expecting it," said Bobby Groover, who grabbed his phone to record what was happening at a pump in Matoaca Wednesday night.

"As soon as I put in the card, paid for it [and] picked the nozzle up, it started going," he said.

Sheri Culbreath had the same experience while using the same pump at the Exxon gas station Thursday morning.

"I drove up to the pump, put in my card, pressed the button to put the gas in the truck -- and before the gas could even come out, the pump started just rolling" Culbreath explained.

Culbreath said that before the nozzle was to her gas cap the pump had already started ticking and she was being charged 14 to 16 cents without receiving any gas.

The convenience store put an out-of-order bag on Exxon nozzle after CBS 6 brought the matter to their attention.

A test of a different pump at the gas station functioned normally.

Both Groover and Culbreath said they will now pay close attention when filling up with gas.

"I think back now about how many times I put the card in, pick up the nozzle and immediately turn to the truck and never really notice it, so I don't know how often it's been happening," Culbreath said.
