Community outraged after suspect nabs peacock in broad daylight

DALLAS, Tex. -- "I love these birds. They're part of the neighborhood," resident Skippy Brown explained.

"They`ve become part of the neighborhood and add some of the character and color here," Beckley Club Estates' HOA, Thomas Loeffel added.

It's quite clear that folks living in the Estates nestled in Oak Cliff couldn't be any more proud of their peacocks.

But what Tisha Crear witnessed over the weekend didn't fly with her and her neighbors.

"I heard a very loud sound coming from our neighborhood peacocks, which we love, " Crear explained.

That loud sound was apparently one of the male birds getting plucked right off the sidewalk.

The pea-napping was caught on cam; you can clearly see the man in a black SUV.

"Well, the video's disturbing; it's obvious that the person knew what they were doing," Loeffel said.

The foul play is almost too painful to watch.

"I said 'Hey!' to the guy. Hey, hey!' And he just took off driving and laughing," Crear said.

The bird bandit might think he's got the last laugh, but neighbors say the cops are on his tail.

"I think it's a terrible thing to do; it's just like kidnapping as far as I'm concerned," Brown said.
