RICHMOND, Va. — Spring is here — and that means springtime allergy season is here.

People who suffer from allergies can attest: the sniffling and sneezing doesn’t just make life difficult during the day. Allergies can also keep you up at night.

If you’re among those people losing sleep because of the sniffling and sneezing, there are a few basic things you can do to try and reduce your nighttime allergies.

First, make sure you do normal housekeeping in your bedroom — cleaning up your bedroom’s floor, bedding, and air.

Next, consider showering at night before bed. This will get any dust and pollen off of you, so you don’t bring it with you to bed.

Try to keep your pets out of your bedroom. They often carry allergens with them, and they bring those allergens into the bedroom if they’re allowed inside.

Finally — take your allergy medicine before bed.
