NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. -- A 62-year-old Newport News man was killed in a Friday morning crash along Interstate 64 west at the Exit 220 ramp in New Kent County, according to Virginia State Police.

"A 15-seat passenger bus was traveling west on I-64 when it ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree. Its driver, Paul R. Clewis, 62, of Newport News, Va., died at the scene," Virginia State Police spokesman Corinne Geller wrote in an email. "Clewis was the only occupant on the bus. The cause of the crash remains under investigation."

The westbound ramp re-opened by 1:25 p.m.

Around the same time Friday morning, at mile marker 221, a multi-vehicle crash was reported. It backed up traffic approximately four miles.

Earlier this week, another fatal accident occurred along this stretch of road.  On Wednesday morning, just six mile markers away, a Richmond woman died in a crash that involved two tractor-trailers and three passenger vehicles, at the 214 mile marker.
