MIDLOTHIAN, Va. -- Tom Visotsky, 63, of Midlothian says before he sees the finish line of this year’s Monument Avenue 10k, he wants to see fans cheering him on to victory.

“The first couple of miles I’m just going to try and keep an easy pace, and then just really count on the fans to bring me in,” Visotsky said.

Visotsky was randomly chosen out of the more than 40,000 expected runners to be the participant in the AT&T “Dash for the Cash” event.

Based on Visotsky's predicted time he listed on his race entry form and his past performance in the event (this will be his 10th time running this 10k), he’ll get a head start in front of some of the fastest men and women on the planet.

If he can cross the finish line before the elite athletes running the full 10k (6.2 miles) he’ll win the $2,500 cash prize. If not, the money will be donated to the VCU Massey Cancer Center.

"It's the best run race of anywhere and I've run a lot of races”, Visotsky said. “It's well organized and one of the big things is that it's a great fundraiser for Massey Cancer which is something close to (my) heart."

Of the last ten races, the Dash for the Cash participant has won eight times.

According to Sportsbackers, Visotsky is a past president of the Virginia Society of CPAs and operated his own staffing firm for twenty-five years. He came out of retirement in June 2014 and now serves as finance and business manager at First Baptist Church, which is located on the 10k course at the intersection of Monument and Boulevard – so he’s expecting a lot of support there as he makes his way to the finish line.

Registration is still open for the 2015 Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k presented by MARTIN’S.
