RICHMOND, Va -- Richmond's new police chief was officially sworn-in to the position during a Friday morning ceremony at Virginia Union University. During the ceremony, Richmond Police Chief Alfred Durham delivered remarks on his 100-day plan for the city.
"I have the responsibility of leading the charge of battle in the age of the old wars: Freedom and fear, justice and cruelty, and good and evil," Durham said. "I stand before you today to tell you that good will prevail over evil in this city."
Durham's plan includes having more officers patrolling on foot through Richmond, especially the city's high-crime areas. He said he wanted those officers to interact with people in the areas they patrol. He also planned to hold a number of town hall meetings.
Durham retired from the Washington, D.C. Police Department, but also worked in Richmond for two years under former police chief Rodney Monroe.
Chief Durham is Richmond's 18th police chief.
