DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. -- A desperate search is underway for a convicted rapist and sex offender in Dinwiddie County.

Scott McBride was convicted in 2013 of rape and indecent liberties following an incident with a minor at a home off White Oak Road in July of 2012.

"The victim in this particular case was a family member and was a juvenile," Major William Knott with the Dinwiddie County Sheriff's Office said.

After his arrest, McBride made bond and made all of his court dates. As a result, he was allowed to remain free on bond when he was convicted.

But deputies said he never showed up for sentencing on Oct. 15.

Deputies have been searching for him and following up on leads, but now are asking the public  for help bring McBride to justice.

Investigators said he still has family in Virginia and in the Dinwiddie County area. They also believe he has visited the area in the past.

Knott said citizens should consider McBride dangerous.

"Anybody who is on the run like that, who has maybe in their mind, feels they have nothing to lose, that they know they're going to be incarcerated for a period of time, I think could be considered dangerous," Knott said.

Friends of McBride, who ran a welding business off of Route 1 for several years, still consider him innocent. However, they do admit things do not look good since he is on the run.

Commonwealth's Attorney Ann Baskerville said McBride will face extra time behind bars when he is caught. In fact, he is already facing two additional felony charges, failure to appear in court and failure to register as a sex offender.
