CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- An accident involving a tractor trailer and power lines has closed a portion of Iron Bridge Road in both directions Thursday morning. Iron Bridge Road, from Omo Road to Cogbill Road, is closed due to power lines across the road, the county advised.
"A tractor trailer was traveling west on Iron Bridge Road when it went off the road on the right side, lost control and struck a utility pole," a Chesterfield Police spokeswoman said. "The crash occurred just west of Irongate Drive. The utility pole snapped, causing various utility lines to fall across all four lanes of Iron Bridge Road. No one was injured in the crash."
"Due to downed power lines, cleanup may take several hours," VDOT advised. Police clarified clean-up could take six to eight hours.
More than 100 Dominion Virginia Power customers in Chesterfield are without power at this hour. The majority of the outages are in the area of the accident, according to Dominion's outage map.
"The road is expected to be closed for an indefinite period," a county spokesman said. "Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area."
This is a developing story.
