CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- A Petersburg woman was killed in a fatal accident that closed all lanes on Interstate 95 north, at mile marker 56, two miles north of the Temple Ave. interchange in Chesterfield County just over a mile from the Colonial Heights line for almost two hours Monday afternoon.

Virginia State Police said that the driver of a 2000 GMC Jimmy over-corrected after running off the interstate’s right shoulder. That’s when the SUV began to roll over.

"At that point, it ejected the passenger and the driver was transported to MVC with serious injuries,” Sgt. Stephen Vick with Virginia State Police said. “The passenger subsequently was pronounced dead at the scene."

Vick said the passenger, 34-year-old Regina E. Goodrich, of Petersburg, died at the scene. Vick said she was not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver, 20-year-old Chantari L. Wyche, of Petersburg, was transported to VCU Medical Center with serious injuries. Vick said she was wearing a seatbelt.

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the SUV to run off the road.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
