Chesterfield murder mystery began when Air Force veteran was called in to work

Posted

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — An alarm at work lured Bruce Jones to a Plantation Pipeline substation off of Genito Road the night of February 10, 1990. As the person who oversaw maintenance of the Chesterfield substation, Jones got the call whenever man-made drainage areas filled with water and triggered the alarm. But on this night, Jones never came home. His wife woke up the next morning, realized her husband was gone and called his work. She was told no one from Plantation Pipeline had heard from Jones either.

“Someone was sent to the substation Jones was dispatched to the night before; they found Jones dead on the floor,” Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Crime Solvers spokesman Corporal Kevin Bacon said. “He had been beaten and shot. An employee pointed out to investigators that the floating alarm had been tampered with, and it appeared that someone with inside knowledge had lured Jones to the location.”

Bruce Jones was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
