City of Richmond Black History Month Event: The City’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities group art exhibit “Isn’t She Lovely” featuring more than twenty prominent African-American artists at the Pine Camp Arts and Community Center, 4901 Old Brook Road. The Multimedia exhibition opens Friday, February 13th with a public reception from 6:30 – 8:30pm and the exhibit includes photographs, paintings, quilts, sculpture, masks and more. Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Black History Month Events, A Weekly Thursday event, the free Jazz Cafe program collaborates with the Richmond Jazz Society, showcasing regional Africa-American Jazz Artists, Gospel Queen Maggie Ingram and the Ingramettes performs Friday, February 6th from 6 – 8pm; February 5th – Vocalist Lani Bass; February 12 – soul fusion quartet – Butcher Brown; February 19 – Drummer Billy Williams and February 26th – eclectic blend of jazz with African grooves – Hotel X; also VMFA’s popular 3 in 30 program is a short tour featuring three object in thirty minutes, February’s Theme “Traditional in Contemporary Art, tours offered February 5th at 6:30pm. The Renewal Projects & 31st Street Baptist Church presents the 2nd Annual United Voices: Raising Awareness through Song & Word in Honor of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, Saturday, February 7th, 3pm – 5pm at 31st Street Baptist Church, 823 North 31st Street, Church Hill, Richmond. Future Events: Direct from Broadway, SISTER ACT, the hilarious, five-time Tony-nominated musical smash, opens at The Altria Theater on Friday, February 13, for three performances only as part of the Broadway In Richmond season. Performances are Friday, February 13 at 8 pm, and Saturday, February 14 at 2 and 8 pm.
