Chesterfield garage fire sends 1 to the hospital

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — One person was sent to the hospital after a fire broke out inside the garage of a Chesterfield home Wednesday morning.

Chesterfield fire officials said crews were dispatched to the 11600 block of Latane Wood Road at 10:22 a.m. for a report of a house fire.

When firefighters arrived, the found smoke billowing from the home’s attached garage.  Crews spent about 15 minutes getting the fire under control.

Two occupants were at home when the fire broke out.

One person was transported to VCU Medical Center with serious injuries.

“The garage suffered moderate damage while the living area of the home only suffered minor smoke damage,” said Lt. Jason Elmore, public information officer for Chesterfield Fire and EMS.

Chesterfield County Fire Marshals are working to determine what sparked the fire.
