WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina -- BB&T has a message for customers who recently noticed they were incorrectly charged an overdraft fee -- we're sorry! Some BB&T customers began to notice the banking issue over the weekend. They reported the bank mistakenly charged them an overdraft fee. Other customers reported they were given bad information about their bank balance.

"We are listening and we understand that today’s issue has created hardships for so many of you, both personally and financially. BB&T wholeheartedly apologizes for the difficulties we have caused,"the company posted on Facebook. "BB&T has addressed the processing issue and accounts now have accurate balances. We want to assure our clients that overdraft fees have been refunded."

The bank said it had identified the issue that affected accounts over the weekend.

"We also want to assure our clients that this was a processing issue only and was not the result of any sort of cybersecurity event," the bank posted.
