UPDATE: “Crews on-site are planning to complete work early today,” according to VDOT. “The ramp lane closure from Interstate 95 north to Interstate 64 west (Exit 79) will be reopened by 3:30 p.m. More updates are forthcoming as progress continues.”
RICHMOND, Va. — Traffic backed up on Interstate 95 north in downtown Richmond all the way to the Interstate 64 west split after VDOT closed the right lane to replace an overhead sign. The lane closure will be in effect Wednesday, January 21 and Thursday, January 22 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. (weather permitting), according to VDOT.
“The large replacement sign requires extensive work, including a cement foundation that reaches fifty feet deep,” Jeff Wilkinson, VDOT Richmond District asset manager, said. “The cement work requires daytime hours due to the sheer volume of cement and milder temperatures for successful curing.”
Expect major delays during morning and evening rush hours, VDOT warned.
Drivers were told to use Interstate 295 or Route 288 to avoid delays.
