Driver killed in I-85 crash was wearing his seat belt

DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. — Police identified the man killed in a 2 a.m. crash on Interstate 85 south in Dinwiddie County on Wednesday.

“A 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee was travelling south on Interstate 85, when it ran off the road left came back into the roadway, ran back off the road left again hitting several trees and overturning,” Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Steve Vick wrote in an email. “The driver of the 1999 Jeep, Bartholomew D. Toe, Sr., 52, of High Point, North Carolina, died at the scene, he was wearing a seat belt.”

The cause of the crash remained under investigation, Vick said.
