RICHMOND, Va. — The first call came from two men who claimed they were robbed on Midlothian Turnpike, after a man asked for their help.

The two men claim that they were at the Valero in the 6200 block of Midlothian Turnpike when a man approached them, asking for help.

Minutes later a state police trooper spots the alleged suspect’s car and turned on his blue lights.

It was just before 2 a.m. Tuesday, when the trooper tried to pull over the suspect on Interstate 95 southbound, in southern Chesterfield.

The driver refuses to stop and the pursuit heads onto Interstate 85, in to Dinwiddie County.

That’s when the two pursuing state police cruisers are hit by a Chrysler convertible, at the 59 mile marker.

State police said the driver was 47-year-old Steven Wade Branch.

He lost control, ran off the road and it caused his car to wreck. Branch wasn’t injured and was taken into custody.

The two troopers were not injured but their cruisers were damaged.

Branch is currently behind bars and faces multiple charges in Meherrin Regional Jail.
